Part IV — The circle and the network
07 · The circle: people and care with access
Ubuntu: I am because we are. In the circle, each person has their place — and each saber, who may come close.
Your profile
Click your name at the top. The Profile shows your account and your galaxies, with the role you have in each and what you can do there (create saber, edit, delete, sync, administer).

There you also find change my password and Logout.
Roles
A role counts per galaxy — you can administer one and be just a participant in another.
| Role | Can |
|---|---|
| USER | read, create saberes, edit and delete their own |
| PAJÉ | look after everything that belongs to their mucua |
| OXALÁ | administer the whole galaxy: accounts, sync, settings |
A role given on one mucua doesn't count on another: someone who is OXALÁ on the neighbouring mucua arrives here as a visitor, until someone here recognises them.
Mocambolas and groups
In ☰ → Mocambolas you find the people of the network. Each person's page shows their photo, name, mucua and the saberes they published. Administrators create accounts, change roles and reset passwords there.
A group gives a name to a set of people — "archive council", "caretakers", "workshop class". It lives in Mocambolas → groups. It serves to say who reads or who edits without repeating the list on every saber: change the group, and it changes everywhere.
Who reads
Each saber has its protection (when creating and editing):
- Public — everyone reads it;
- Restricted — only the readers you choose (people and groups), plus whoever published and whoever administers;
- Encrypted — restricted and encrypted: the files travel through the network closed, and only the readers open them. (In an encrypted saber, groups are expanded into people at the moment of encrypting: someone who joins the group later only reads it when someone saves the protection again.)
A whole galaxy can also be closed: in Care for → Who reads this galaxy, administrators choose its readers.
An honest note: "restricted" separates what people see through the website. Whoever has access to the mucua's computer, or to a whole copy of the galaxy, can read the files of a restricted saber. For real secrecy, use encrypted.
Who edits
Besides whoever published, a saber can have editors: people and groups who can also change it (but not delete it). And a galaxy set to read-only on this mucua lets nobody edit through here — not even administrators.
The licence
In additional details, the licence says what other people may do with the work. Choose one from the list (the Creative Commons ones, for example) or write your own — such as "use upon consulting the council". A hand-written licence is not an open permission: whoever wants to use the work must ask.
To talk about in the circle
- Which saberes of the community belong to everyone, and which are only for the inside? Who decides?
- Which groups make sense here (the council, the elders, the youth)?
