Part III — Giving shade
06 · Just joined the network? The path of whoever arrives
Whoever arrives under the baobab doesn't need to ask the tree for permission. They only need to know where to sit.
This chapter is for whoever arrives at the gathering — and for whoever welcomes those people at the door.
1. Join the Wi-Fi
Look on your phone for the gathering's network (usually Baobaxia) and connect. If the phone warns "Wi-Fi without internet", that's fine: stay connected. The site, the chat and the archive are right there, on the mucua, and don't need internet.
If the site doesn't open, turn mobile data off for a moment: some phones insist on sending everything through it.
2. Open the site
The easiest way: point the camera at QR code 1 on the poster. Or type one of these addresses in the browser:
https://local.baobaxia.net(if the gathering has the certificate);http://baobaxia.local;- the number shown on the mucua's screen, such as
http://10.42.0.1.
On the mucua's own network, without internet, even any random site leads to it.
3. The arrival page
On the site, the page Just joined the network? Start here brings together everything someone arriving needs, in three steps: the site, the account and the chat.

To find the page from anywhere on the site: the ☰ menu, at the very bottom, Just arrived? Start here.

On a computer, the page shows everything at once, with the QR codes — it's the same one that becomes the poster:

4. Create the account
Tap Create account. Choose:
- a username: only letters, numbers, dot, hyphen and underscore — no spaces or accents (
dona.maria,griot_ze,school2026); - a name (optional, shows on your knowledge items);
- a password, twice.

Done: you're logged in right away. The same account and the same password work in the chat (chapter 07).
If the create account button doesn't show up, it's because whoever looks after the mucua preferred to create the accounts by hand: ask the organisers for yours.
5. What now?
With the account, you can:
- stroll through the Archive, listen to and watch what the community has kept;
- publish your photos, videos and audio from the gathering;
- write on the Blog, mark things on the Agenda, put them on the Map;
- listen to the radio or watch TV, when there is a channel on air.
All of that is in the book Fruits of Baobáxia. A tip: in the phone's browser, "Add to home screen" turns the site into an icon, like an app.
After you log in, the arrival page shows your chat address ready (your-username@local.baobaxia.net):
